Please note:
* The user's manual can be found in the file LASER_E.TXT (english version).
This is the text file version with no formatting.
* Differences between version 1.21 and version 1.22
- A small error in the operation RESET (1b 40) was eliminated.
- The sequence (1b 52 0x) (selection of national character sets) is now
emulated. Usually, this is not neccessary on the ST, because its character
set contains all national and special characters without the need to
switch between them. However, there are some applications (like Dbase, VIP
Professional...) that rely on the switch sequence.
See the manual for 'Character settings'.
* Differences between version 1.22 and version 1.30
- Some graphics applications only showed a striped printout. This happened
because these programs were written for the old EPSON standard using the
old control codes. LASERBRAIN 1.30 is able to switch between old and new
control codes, thus solving the problem. Default is the old version,
because the majority of applications work with the old codes. (LASERBRAIN
1.22 and earlier version only had the new control codes.)
- It is now possible to pass bit-maps to LASRBRAIN, without having to use
the build-in graphics commands to process the data. So LASERBRAIN can be
used as a printer driver for applications which process the graphic data
themselves.
- There is a new dialog that shows that there is still a disk drive
selected. This is neccessary because LASERBRAIN cannot access the laser
printer as long as there is still a disk drive selected (this is due to
the way in which the DMA handling of the ST works). With the older
versions of LASERBRAIN, problems could occur when booting from harddisk
(the laser remained inaccessible). To avoid this dialog, make sure that a
disk is in drive A, even when booting from harddisk (some time may be
gained if the disk in drive A does NOT have a boot sector).
- Under some circumstances problems arised between LASERBRAIN and TOS 1.4 .
These problems were due to an error within TOS 1.4 , which is now
circumvented.
* Differences between version 1.30 and 1.31
- If you used the keyboard instead of the mouse to make settings in the
accessory, some keys would malfunction. This has been fixed!
- The width of the super- and subscript fonts was wrong in version 1.30,
resulting in a shifted output. This has been fixed. Actually, these fonts
became somewhat narrower. This will affect MINI.PRT.
* Ordinarily, it is not possible to access LASERBRAIN's extended commands
from within WORDPLUS. The only way around this is to redefine unused
characters in such a way as to send command sequences to LASERBRAIN in
their place. Note that this might cause havoc to the text formatting done
by WORDPLUS. So it might be a good idea use those "redefined" characters
in otherwise empty lines only. As an example, we redefined the first two
hebrew characters to change the line spacing (BAYTH: 1 line ; ALEPH 1,5
lines). To select a line spacing of one and a half line, you would simply
insert the ALEPH character into your text.
* A known bug:
When using the manual feed option of the printer, a completly distorted
print-out may occur when printing a number of pages in immediate
succession. You can avoid this problem by waiting until the red "add
paper" control light comes on before starting the print-out of the next
page.
(This problem seems to be caused by a malfunction of the SLMC804 in
certain circumstances. We are working on a solution)
* In spite of ample testing, a program as complex as LASERBRAIN may contain
hidden bugs like the one mentioned above. If you should run into such a
bug, please inform us. Please describe the circumstances under which the
error happens as exactly as possible and include a sample print-out
whenever possible. We will try to eliminate the error as soon as possible.
* We welcome your comments and suggestions regarding LASERBRAIN. Most of the
enhancements described above were encouraged by users of LASERBRAIN! You
may write to the address below in English or German.
